New Pictures of our Carriage Clocks

We have some beautiful new photographs of our rare "K. Mozer" Carriage Clocks. These very fine pieces were made by L'Epee when they were located in their London Factory. There were very few pieces made by the artisan clockmakers in London under the famous L'Epee standards of excellence. L'Epee carriage clocks have since been adopted by a Swiss factory that also produces the Matthew Norman line. We are pleased to make available the Ovale and the Dauphine which are some of the very few collectible pieces that were produced in England, by English clockmakers. While the British clockmaking industry was (at one time) the best in the world, their output has since become very small and very collectible. You can easily see, from our new pictures and video, the tremendous quality of these pieces. Take a moment to appreciate the impeccable tradition of British Horology!

What did the Swiss invent?

Even though this little quote has done so much to spread the misnomer that the Swiss invented the cuckoo clock, I still love the movie. The Prater hasn't changed all that much, except there's no way you can open the door when it's up high. I rode on it again a few months ago. How cuckoo clock music is supposed to work

Below you can watch a movie ( visit our YouTube channel! ) with a cuckoo music box functioning properly. Sometimes minor adjustments need to be made to the two arms connecting the clock mechanism to the music mechanism. As you watch the video, pay attention to the two black arms that reach in from the left side. One on top and one in the middle (touching the spinning fan-fly or governor). In the first part of the video you see one cuckoo call and music right away. The second part shows how the music mechanism is first started by the cuckoo mechanism, held while the cuckoo calls, and then released to allow it to play. The thicker, black metal arm on top unlatches the music drum and the music mechanism so that the drum starts to turn. It is abruptly stopped however by the second, thinner wire that touches the brass fan-fly. This stopping wire remains in place until the cuckoo bird has finished its call. If this second wire didn't stop the fan-fly from spinning, the music would play ...
