Woodpecker Alarm Clock

Here's another new conception of an alarm clock - a re-definition of a clock that puts you to bed and wakes you after you've slept enough.

This conceptual piece has two alarms. One to tell you when you should go to bed, and the other to wake you after you've had enough hours of sleep. The sound and design recalls the woodpecker and his tree.

It's beautifully constructed.

Scope Clock

We, at North Coast Imports, love to see homemade creations in horology... especially new and imaginative ones! Here's a very cool scope clock by Albert Y. that's based off of the Thiem-Work components. He was helped by Eric C. both in vision and execution.

Horst Köhler and the cuckoo clock

The city of Freiburg, Germany (in the Black Forest) is in exhibition at the world Expo in Shanghai. We posted about the exhibit here.

Here's the mayor of Freiburg Dieter Salomon, German president Horst Köhler, and a woman in traditional Black Forest dress.

From a happy new cuckoo clock owner!

Just a quick note to thank you for your help in my selection of a cuckoo
clock.

I chose #1385 which just arrived and is on the wall at Van Horn Jewelers, waiting for my pick up next week after they check the timing this week. I was smiling so hard I thought my face would burst. It is beautiful and just right for me. It cancelled all the sad memories of previously lost cuckoos (for whatever reasons) for which I am especially thankful too. The figures are wonderful in every aspect, the music is perfectly charming and the
colors are better than what I'd hoped to find.

You were right. It is/was possible. I appreciate your time and caring for one customer.
Sincerely,
Lynn

Thanks Lynn! We're so happy you're pleased. You certainly picked a nice piece. The 1385, 1389, and 1314 are all excellent pieces with very fine traditional Black Forest charm.

Set your quartz cuckoo with automatic night shut-off

Our NEW Sternreiter quartz cuckoo, model #40QM has a more sophisticated mechanism with an automatic night shut-off. The older models had a light sensor switch, but the new models actually have a timing device which shuts off the cuckoo and the music during the nighttime hours. In order for it to function properly, the clock must be sequenced to the proper day/night setting. In order to do that properly, follow this sequence:

BEFORE INSTALLING THE BATTERIES
1. Turn the minute hand clockwise until it points to 5:00am
2. Open the back cover and insert 3 batteries R14 in the battery holder (for best results, use Duracell or a generic brand - any brand OTHER than Energizer.)
3. From 6:00am to 9:00pm, the cuckoo will call the full hour on the hour. From 10:00pm to 5:00am the night shut-off should be in effect and the cuckoo will not call.

NEW MODEL - the "Craftsman" cuckoo

My family and I just had a short trip to California last weekend. While there we visited my aunt and uncle who have a decidedly "California-style" cuckoo clock. It has light-colored wood with a rustic finish... American Bungalow style, but still a cuckoo clock.

When I got back, I was pleased to hear from our supplier at Romba that they have a NEW model that was similar to my uncle's old cuckoo clock in LA. This new model is similar to the BAUHAUS model that we introduced last winter. We are dubbing the new one the Craftsman...

This is part of the Black Forest exhibition at the Expo in Shanghai. Notice all the Romba clocks!

Here are some more pictures of the installation and behind the curtain.

The clock in the center is by Stefan Strumbel (who's clocks have been featured on the blogosphere quite a lot lately) and the rest are from our Romba! Be sure and check out our websites for more information on these clocks.
